BIRD PUDDING

3 cups suet or other fat 1 cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup unsalted peanut butter 1 cup rolled oats
3 cups bread crumbs 1 cup cornmeal
1 cup stone ground whole wheat flour ½ cup sugar

Melt the suet or fat in a large saucepan or kettle. Mix in the remaining ingredients. Pour into a bread pan and chill.

To serve, slice off an inch or so and put it in a tray type bird feeder. If you have one attached to your window, this is a perfect place to observe the reactions to your culinary efforts. Or take a plastic mesh bag that onions come in, place the whole pudding inside, tie it up and hang it in a nearby tree, preferably in the shade and high enough so you don't attract uninvited dining companions.
